Welcome to the latest C64GFX updates!

For anyone finding C64GFX for the first time: this site is a catalog and celebration of pixel art created on the Commodore 64 — tens of thousands of images, browsable, searchable, and linked back to the artists and releases behind them.

For those of you who’ve been visiting for a while: thank you. You’re the reason all of this gets built. Now let’s show you what’s been happening.

Achievements

Achievement Notification

C64GFX now has a full achievements system. As you use the site — liking images, adding favourites, submitting suggestions — you'll earn achievements that pop up as Xbox 360-style notifications. Many are named after C64 BASIC commands and scene terminology.

The full set is organised into five categories:

•  Likes — earned by liking images, from First Like up to POKE 53280,0 at 5,000 likes
•  Favourites — earned by adding images to your personal collection
•  Suggestions — earned when your submitted suggestions are accepted
•  Top 25 — earn Tastemaker by publishing your first Top 25 list
•  Secret Achievements — eight hidden achievements triggered by various activities

User Profile Page

User Profile Overview

Every registered user now has their own profile page — your home on C64GFX, bringing together everything tied to your account.

Your profile shows:

•  Achievements — all earned and in-progress, with progress tracking
•  Top 25 — your curated ranked list (public when published)
•  Favourites — your personal image collection
•  Settings — censorship filter, achievement popups, account management
•  Trusted badge — awarded to verified sceners and other established community figures

Other users can visit your profile to see your published Top 25 and trusted status. We have more features planned for profile pages — coming very soon.

Favourites

Favourites

You can now mark images as Favourites — a personal collection of up to 100 images you particularly love. Your favourites are displayed on your profile and serve as the pool from which you build your Top 25 list.

Likes are a public signal of appreciation that feed into popularity rankings. Favourites are your private, curated collection: the images you'd want on your wall. Both matter, and both are worth doing.

Top 25

Top25 Browse

Build, curate, and publish your own personal Top 25 — a ranked list of the 25 C64 images you consider the finest on the site.

Add images to your Favourites (up to 100), select up to 25 for your Top 25, arrange them by drag-and-drop, and publish once you have at least 20. The divergence between lists is the interesting part — there's no wrong answer.

Suggest Changes

Suggest Changes Panel

Every page now features a Suggest Changes button. On image pages, you can suggest corrections to:

•  Artists — with CSDb IDs for accuracy
•  Tags — HI, MC, PET, FLI, SPR, LOGO, FONT, RAST, ANIM, LOADING, DIR
•  Release date
•  External database IDs — Lemon64, GB64, C64.com

You can also submit reference images, AI details, workstage documentation, creation notes, and general feedback. Attach up to three images to any suggestion.

My Suggestions

Every suggestion is tracked on your My Suggestions page. Accepted suggestions earn you achievements.

We rely on the community for this. If you notice something wrong — a misattributed credit, a missing tag, an incorrect date — please take sixty seconds and report it.

Artist Highlights

Artist Highlights

Artist pages now open with a Highlights section — a curated showcase of that artist's finest work, giving you an immediate sense of their style and best pieces.

Artists with at least 25 images can personally curate their highlights. Otherwise, the site picks them based on popularity and quality. If you're a C64 artist, get in touch via the Suggest Changes button to set yours up.

GIF Animation Frames

Gif Frames

Animated images now display their individual frames below the main animation, extracted automatically and laid out in sequence. Consecutive duplicate frames are merged to keep things clean.

For anyone studying C64 animations — the timing, the layering, the tricks artists use to suggest motion — seeing the frames in isolation reveals technique that gets lost in playback.

Workstages

Workstages

Some image pages now include workstage information — a step-by-step record of how a piece was built. These records are revelatory for understanding technique.

If you have documentation of how a piece was created — reference photographs, in-progress screenshots, notes on technique — please contribute it via Suggest Changes. These records are valuable and increasingly rare.

The Comments Page

Comments Page

The new Comments page collects the latest comments from across the entire site in one place, with a split-pane layout: the comment list on the left, and the selected image with its full discussion on the right.

The navigation now shows a count of new comments since your last visit. Comments are one of the most underused parts of the site — and one of the most valuable. Many of the artists who made these images are still active and notice when someone engages with their work.

Improved Search

Search Results

Search has been overhauled with improved result styling and more informative display of image metadata. Animated GIFs are flagged clearly in results, interlace images are correctly identified, and the presentation is cleaner and easier to scan.

Search covers images, artists, and releases — powered by Algolia, so it's fast and tolerant of partial queries. If you haven't been using search, it's worth a try.

Mobile Improvements

A batch of mobile-specific improvements has landed: a proper burger menu, better tap targets, more responsive layouts, and smoother scrolling. C64GFX was always usable on mobile, but these changes make it genuinely comfortable.

Infinite Scroll — In Development

We're actively working on an Infinite Scroll browsing mode for the main gallery pages. The goal is a smooth, continuous scroll through the collection without the interruption of pagination. We're close — stay tuned.

Get Involved

C64GFX is a community project. Here are ways you can make the site better right now:

•  Like images — one click feeds the popularity rankings and tells the community what it values
•  Favourite images — build your personal collection of up to 100
•  Publish your Top 25 — if you have 20+ favourites, your list is ready to share
•  Leave a comment — say something, ask a question, share a memory
•  Suggest a correction — sixty seconds of your time, permanent improvement to the archive
•  Contribute workstages — if you have documentation of how a piece was created, it belongs here

The Commodore 64 scene produced remarkable things under severe constraints. It deserves a remarkable catalog — built by the people who care about it.

Until Next Time

That's the full update. Thank you for reading, and for being part of C64GFX. There's more in the works — and now that the blog exists, you'll hear about it there as well as here.

If you've got feedback, ideas, corrections, or pixel-art news to share — just reply to this email. Stay creative!
