Deluxe Paint

Deluxe Paint is a bitmap graphics editor created by Dan Silva for Electronic Arts and originally released for the Commodore Amiga in November 1985. With its intuitive interface, palette tools and animation features, it became the de-facto standard tool for pixel art and 2D animation throughout the late 1980s and 1990s -- used in countless games and demos -- and was eventually ported to MS-DOS and the Atari ST (Wikipedia)
