The Ballad of Halo Jones

The Ballad of Halo Jones is a science-fiction comic strip written by Alan Moore and drawn by Ian Gibson, originally serialised in 2000 AD between 1984 and 1986. Set in the 50th century, the strip follows the title character -- an ordinary, unheroic young woman from the underclass-ringed slum-city The Hoop -- as she escapes Earth, joins a starliner crew and is eventually swept into an interplanetary war. Conceived as a nine-book epic of which only three were completed before contractual disputes ended the project, it remains a touchstone of British science-fiction comics (Wikipedia)
