Wes Craven

Wes Craven (1939--2015) was an American film director, writer and producer best known as a master of modern horror cinema. After breaking through with The Last House on the Left (1972) and The Hills Have Eyes (1977), he created the A Nightmare on Elm Street franchise and its dream-stalking villain Freddy Krueger, then reinvigorated the slasher genre two decades later with the self-aware Scream series (Wikipedia)
