Spawn

Spawn is a fictional anti-hero created by Todd McFarlane, first appearing in Spawn #1 (May 1992) from Image Comics. Al Simmons, a CIA-affiliated assassin murdered by his employers, makes a Faustian bargain with the demon Malebolgia to return to Earth as a Hellspawn. The series became one of the best-selling independent comics of all time and has been adapted into an animated television series, a 1997 live-action feature film, video games and an extensive line of action figures (Wikipedia)
